Repetitions in any craft are worthwhile. Doing many repetitive actions over time will make anyone more than average.
I’ve become an apprentice of the art form of repetition in the last 22 months. Repetitions have kept me in good spirits and will continue to do so as the quality of material improves.
The dopamine rush from every rep/published post is still strong.
Because of repetitions, I’ve shown up on the online writing world once a week. Despite the fear of ridicule, the negative self-talk, and violent coughing I’ve embraced the repetition lifestyle.
When I do the work, there’s hope and a hunger for improvement. Many of the reps aren’t my best work but showing up and trying counts for something.
When I don’t do the work, I feel undone. Uneasy. Unable to walk out the door in peace.
There are many greats in the writing world who have published countless works on their journey. They’ve inspired me to enjoy the process and the challenge of completing many repetitions.
For this week’s post, I decided to share my poem “Repetition” once more.
I hope you enjoy and please feel free to leave a comment.
May it inspire you to work for the small rewards.

Repetition
Through repetition, you’ll be set free.
Every repetition is a small reward. It’s another piece of evidence of your endless journey toward improvement. It’s one less to do tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year. This “small reward” philosophy will keep you focused on doing more repetitions. And you ought to do them.
The repetition’s creation might be the only thing you control in your life. You can’t control the weather, political decisions, death, or who even admires your work. All you can do is sit down, stand up, and work.
The repetition might be the only good thing you do all day. When you get slammed by the day’s tiny obstacles or everything falls apart, sometimes the daily work for yourself is all you can be proud of.
The repetition will do wonders for you somewhere down the road. You will be seen as someone with discipline. You will be seen as someone who is serious about their craft. The repetitions will become your massive portfolio, and no one will question your expertise.
Through repetition, you’ll end the unconfident version of yourself for good. What a pitiful existence you subjected yourself to. Consider it a merciful end and a beautiful, painful rebirth of a confident man/woman.
The repetition is yours to own. You become your repetitions. They come from you (albeit with a little help from other writers). No one can take that from you. Not even Death herself.
You are complaining about the repetition now. Sure, it might be boring to do the daily work. You might be burned out from a long day. You fear that the repetition might fail. That you will fail as a creator. That’s idiotic nonsense and you ought to remove that thought from your mind immediately. Remove that thought and do the repetitive work.
Through repetition, you remind yourself that you can’t afford to remain stagnant and that there is much to conquer. The greats continue to work at a frantic pace, even if they find it hard to work in their frail age. Even if their bodies reject their commands. This is another reason why you ought to start doing your repetitions today.
Through repetition, you’ll be set free.
