Hey everyone.
Hope this post finds you in good health. I also hope you’re sticking to your resolutions!
As I was editing this post, a few questions came to my little mind after watching all of 5 minutes of world news:
Are we doomed to repeat another year of insanity? Do we have to brace ourselves for supposed “inevitable” global conflict?
These are some depressing questions to chew on, but why the hell should we ponder those questions every day when we can chew on these rants that’ll make us laugh or give us something else to think about1?
Enjoy and share them with those loved ones who are still living like World War 3 memes are trending!
I’m willing to bet you have gym equipment at home, collecting an ungodly amount of dust. Let it all go and go to the gym. I know you don’t want to interact with a bunch of sweaty ass people or touch dirty equipment, but you’re not driven enough to work out in the comfort of your own home. You sit down watching TV while your dumbbells, resistance bands, or kettlebells are crying out for someone to throw them around. Either will yourself/pray for the energy to lift them or pick up the ones at the local gym. Who knows— You might end up saving someone’s life trying to lift double their weight on the bench press or you’ll find your accountability buddy there. Give your equipment up to the work out freak in your inner circle or build yourself up to be said work out freak.
After taking an American Sign Language course for a week straight, I’m starting to develop pain in my fingers that I haven’t experienced since my first year of serious guitar learning. Signing the letter M to N frightens me. The mastery of this language will be painful mentally and physically (at least for a bit). I discovered there are signs for social media apps which is cringe/fascinating to see signed. I also discovered how rude it is to stare at two people signing in public. Maybe they’re sharing secret recipes! Language learning will keep your brain healthy for a while longer and you’ll become more interesting to be around.
Recently, I’ve been able to hit certain high notes from my favorite Motown songs. My voice still sounds like dog shit but I can control air flow into my diaphragm better. All those karaoke sessions in the shower/car have reaped something cool. The lesson behind this discovery: Progress will creep up on you when you least expect it. This is why it’s important to find joy in whatever you pursue intentionally or for fun and to keep going.
No school of thought will ever be complete2. To receive all the answers that humanity seeks solely from Stoicism, Idealism, Nihilism, or Zen Buddhism has never worked out completely. I would assume that that not every student of Zeno/Epictetus, Plato, Nietzsche, and Bodhidharma has defended their school to the bitter end. There are flaws in each. Stoicism is seen as a “knuckle dragging” philosophy on the surface; Idealists try to keep unrealistic expectations alive and place them on a pedestal; Nihilists say nothing matters and denounce life as a whole… but will say one can create meaning; Zen Buddhism can become real boring since one of its major practices is sitting quietly for a long time; I haven’t even mentioned other schools like Socialism and Marxism, which have historically failed in various nations. Flaws are fine. Finding them will keep you on your toes. Pull ideas from various philosophies and live a chill ass life. Never think your mental models are concrete. Never assume one school of thought to be perfect.
No amount of sitting under a tree meditating or reading will get you ahead quite like taking action and stumbling through the process. Meditating with the Balance app or reading on how to write copy write didn’t help me start writing. Only creating a newsletter, writing gibberish, and figuring out what the damn buttons do launched me into this lifelong journey. You can’t let not having all the answers keep you from pursuing your work.
That’s a wrap for today’s rants.
Be sure to share this post with your favorite degenerates.
Enjoy your weekend and until next time,
— Crush
This is a terrible attempt at getting others to think about anything else but mutually assured destruction.
Maybe school of thought created by AI will be the correct one.
