Hi friends.
Happy Friday.
I’m focused on weight loss and moving to Portland soon. My apologies for the radio silence.
Today, I wanted to share a small snippet from my book, DEATH OF THE LAZY BASTARD.
Enjoy and subscribe/share with your people.
THE BARE MINUMUM IS FINE FOR NOW.
What is one small thing you can do without instant gratification or with little effort? (Shout out to James Clear for inspiring this question).
“Effort creates action. Action creates results.”- Anthony Pompliano
Share today.
Don’t worry about the size of the efforts in the beginning. Just get into the habit of doing something.
The smallest effort can be daunting, especially if you’re not used to doing something for yourself. A creative endeavor. A war against that stubborn belly fat. Stopping a negative habit.
One of the “easiest” ways to start making some effort? Talk or write about your flaws and shortcomings.
Revealing your flaws does two things:
You start being vocal. Everybody loves talking about themselves and their problems. We are an egocentric species. These flaws also become real. You can’t hide from the reality of your flaws.
You’ll be braver than most. No one likes being vulnerable because it opens them up to attacks from strangers. Screw those people. They’re full of flaws but pretend to be perfect. Perfection is not real.
Any new action will feel foreign to your brain. Trust me, if you do this one thing, you’ll feel amazing. Maybe not right away but give it some time.
I started journaling about my flaws (being afraid to talk to strangers, disagreeing with others because I had an irrational fear of them wanting to punch my face, and being less of a man) a few sentences a day for a year. I then mentioned these flaws online before I moved on to tweeting random ideas or rants. After the tweets, I decided to write small essays. I started this newsletter soon after. Now, I have this short book.
Years of calling myself out helped big time!
Feel free to share your flaws online. If you have a crippling porn addiction or you’re a professional fuck-up but you’re willing to get rid of it/change, talk about it in your writing. Record a podcast episode. Post a YouTube short. Readers will be inspired to share their true feelings just as you have. It’ll take away valuable ammunition for your enemies to use.
If I call myself a fat fuck while I lose weight, people can’t hurt me anymore.
If you feel like this act is too difficult, you can always share your experiences with spicy food, reading difficult books, or sharing your love for a weird passion (sewing cat sweaters or secretly playing with wrestling figures while your spouse is out with their friends).
That’s so much easier and there’s a chance you’ll find a niche community of freaks like you. Now, you’re killing laziness and making friends!
Any bit of sharing is better than keeping your ideas and passions to yourself.
So, what’s your first sentence going to be?
Thanks for reading.
