This is my first rant in a while. I was conflicted about sharing this, but I really wanted to share what I saw in Paramount last night.
Seeing chaos fall upon a city you’ve driven past for years is quite bleak.
Last night, I ended up between a group of protesters, a car burned down, fire trucks, graffiti painted all over buildings, and LA County sheriff deputies outfitted with riot gear. I and many others were waiting for a red light to turn green.
I went to go see a loved one and their baby and had no intention of ending up in that intersection.
After an eternity, the traffic light turned green and I felt relieved.
I slowly drove past the burnt chassis and the officers to my right, only to hear a few fireworks going off, freaking out some of the protesters.
I almost ended up getting hit by an asshole idiot trying to do a donut maneuver in his truck as some form of protest in the officers’ direction. There were some people there who weren’t protesting, but wanted to take advantage of the chaos.
2,000 National Guard troops were on their way. That must have been an insane sight.
The Governor and President traded blows on X while protestors and officers did the same on the streets.
I can’t imagine what it was like standing on either side. I wouldn’t want to either.
I was trying to get home. Now, I’m sharing what I saw.
Paramount, a blink and you’ll miss it city in the Los Angeles County, turned into a pocket of chaos last night because of ICE raids.
I won’t lie and tell you that I wasn’t scared. I didn’t want to inhale tear gas, take a rubber bullet to the head, or get tackled down and arrested.
I wish the countless videos of families being ripped apart didn’t happen. I wish tear gas canisters didn’t litter the floor. I wish that batons and rubber rounds didn’t connect with flesh. Seeing such violence in a neighborhood, even for a brief second, is hard to scrub out of your mind.
I’m not sure how this madness will end. I’m going to turn off the constant updates for some time.
Brothers, please stay safe and if you feel a STRONG need to stand up against these raids, do so. Only time will tell how this plays out.
This country might have taken a even bigger step towards division.
Be well.
P.S. to the idiot who attempted a donut and almost crashed into me, I hope you stay safe too.
