“The hallmark of excellence, the rest of greatness, is consistency.”— Jim Tressel
Is the bar for excellence low?
Hell yeah it is!
Especially if you compare the actions you took last year compared to this quarter.
You should only worry about outperforming yourself (the lazy bastard tries to slow your progress but fails to do so), but you should feel proud knowing you’ve done more than 99.9% of dreamers and talkers.
I’m sure it wasn’t easy. Growth is painful. Growth takes time. Growth destroys your current identity and beliefs. Growth bent you a bit, but you ended up fine, friend.
We’re a quarter of the way through 2025 and look at all of your efforts:
You’ve read more this quarter than most people have read in years.
You’ve gone to the gym more times than half of the people who showed up on January 1st and screwed off.
You’re writing at an unbelievable pace. Some people dream about writing, yet don’t sit down and do the work.
You’ve learned how CBT techniques such as exposure training and cognitive restructuring helped you be a little more courageous in this crazy world.
You’re connecting with yourself and you realized that you’re a badass. Some people are afraid of their true self.
You’ve gone for long walks and have learned to appreciate the world’s beauty. Yes, even suburbia and inner cities are beautiful.
You’re doing well— no you’re doing excellent.
You deserve to give yourself a pat on the shoulder, friend.
You should keep this growth going next week and for the rest of your life.
You are excellent. Go tell your dog, friends, and the mirror this undeniable fact.
This is a reminder that you’re doing a damn good job.
Enjoy your rest.
