Hola.
Here’s another helping of advice for my peeps. I’m stressing out over my final exam. Instead of studying, however, I’m writing bad advice for you!
Enjoy!
You’ve already texted a book’s length these last few months. You can write a few hundred words a day. The ideas don’t have to be life-changing. Just freaking start writing today.
If wearing two watches is wrong, why the fuck do we have two wrists? This is the kind of mentality you should have about social norms that are meant to be broken. You might look ridiculous challenging them, but no one can call you “normal”.
Start small to stay in the fight. If you swing for the fences in the beginning, you’ll fail. When you fail, you’ll have a difficult time bouncing back. If you don’t bounce back, you’ll give up. When you give up, regret is born. A regret lasts until you take your last breath.
The people you look up to didn’t understand what the fuck they were doing when they tried the “impossible”. You’re looking for a secret answer that isn’t there. Show up and work your butt off.
Some mental models are good to hold onto or avoid:
Disconfirming Evidence- Call your bullshit ideas out and prove their validity.
Compounding- Do more shit and you’ll grow immensely over time.
Law of the Instrument- Using the same skills or tools in everything you do will not result in similar results. Get out of your comfort zone or fuck off.
Mere Exposure- If it’s familiar then you’ll cling onto it. This is why trying new things is hard for the procrastinator.
You have plenty of time to do everything you want. You can’t do it all at once and might not have the energy to do it later. You can be a great writer, but your music must wait to be recorded. Your health can be improved, but your wealth might take a dip. Your comfort over your dreams. Your goals over relationships. Pick and choose your priorities.
I know this makes me sound like part of the problem, but some of us don’t need to be having babies yet. We have ideas concepts, inventions, and more to create. A baby takes away time and energy from those things. Don’t worry, I’m not against having children.
Don’t drink if you don’t have to. Don’t smoke if you don’t want to. Environments where vices are rampant or peer pressure is overbearing, should be avoided.
This advice is not earth-shattering. It might not make sense for you, or you already know it. Great! Share this with someone who doesn’t.
Until next time,
Adios.
